So I suppose its been about forever and a day since either of us last updated. Whoops. Sorry about that, folks! But the hardships of college life (eh hem - mountains of homework and responsibilites) get in the way of our blogging.

BUT I have many things to share!

First of all, although the presentation was some time ago, I HAVE to comment on it.
It. Was. Amazing.
I even won a mini purple sharpie for answering a trivia question! (What are the 3 mountains at the MK at WDW? Do you know???)
The recruiter (I think her name was Julie...not completely sure though) started with the video that introduces you to all the aspects of the Disney Company, the parks, the movies, the television shows, and also the things that you normally wouldn't associate with the company, such as Baby Einstein and ESPN.
After that, she went over everything about the wonderful college program. The living, the pay, the opportunities, the classes, the roles...all the talk about all that magic made me we want to leave right then!
In fact, I still want to leave RIGHT NOW!
I've finally settled on Merchandise as my first choice for roles. I'm going to mention in my interview that I absolutely adore Main St. and could die happy if I worked there (stated in a bit more of a professional manner, of course), but it ultimately doesn't matter. Anywhere in WDW is a fantastic place to be!

Also, I just discovered via surfing a message board that I read and occasionally comment on that there is something called Goofy's Mystery Tour at DHS. For what I understand, it is a trivia challenge/scavenger hunt that takes cast members in groups of 4 (or 2 cast members and 2 guests) around DHS in a race where you looks for clues, answer questions, solve puzzles...etc. I don't know much about it, but it sounds like a blast to me!
And, I must say, my sister and I are exceptional at Disney trivia. Ask us anything. Seriously. I dare you. =D

I also have to mention a new goal that my sister and I recently decided to add to our list of future accomplishments - go to Disneyland Paris.
Allears.net had quite a few blogs about the park for awhile and I just fell in love with all the pictures! Since then, I have done some research on the park and have come to the conclusion that we have no choice - we have to go there.
The parks take on classic rides such as Space Mountain are just stunning! I'm so ready for Mission 2! And the Indiana Jones ride? Holy rollercoaster, Batman! I'm preparing myself NOW.
Theres so many things that are there that I wasn't aware of - an Alice in Wonderland hedge maze, a version of Storybookland, a dragon's lair beneath the castle...
And the Studios & Disney Village looks amazing as well!
For Disney fanactics such as ourselves, how could we NOT go?

On an un-Disney note - Slumdog Millionaire came out on DVD on Tuesday! Bri & I are waiting until we go home for Easter to buy it, but I am so excited!
Maybe we'll finally get the rest of the end credits Bollywood dance down.
& yes. I did say THE REST of it. =)

Ugh, I have been horribly sick for the past two days now. I hate cold season! Fortunately, I have much to look forward to to get me through me it, including the Disney College Program Presentation here at Tech on Tuesday! I can't wait to go. I know there's new stuff that has been added to the DCP, and I'm excited to hear all about it, especially the addition of the job of photopass photographer for the college kids!
Seeing as how my minor is photography, that greatly interests me. I thought at first that I would definately want to do that, but now I'm not quite sure. I would be outside all day, for one, and my very fair skin and the sun do not get along well. I'm also not sure if I would be in one park all day or if I would get moved around a lot, which I'm not neccessarily opposed to as of now, but it seems as if that might get pretty tiring after awhile. Also, the costumes for that particular job are the most flattering things ever...(http://troop3723.com/GSWebPage/AboutUs/Disney%20World/Disney%20World%20Pictures/PhotoPass1.bmp). I know the clothing shouldn't really be a concern, considering it will be a privlege just to be able to work there, but I'm a clothes junkie and, well, I can't help but think of that kind of thing! Haha. The main street photographers costumes are better, however (http://www.thedisneytraveler.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/disney-photopass-photographer-disney-world.jpg).
So hopefully they have some information at the presentation that will help me decide! I'll take some pictures if I can while there and I will definately write about the information they give!

I have to add to Bri's list of loves...

Frozen Yogurt
Smoothies (Jamba Juice, in particular!)
F. Scott Fitzergerald
DSquared (Dean & Dan Caten)
Giraffes
Barnes & Noble
Madewell
Airplane!
Coffee mugs
Starbucks
Decorating
California (especially LA, Monterey, & San Francisco)

And theres tons more, but I think thats good for now.

Another love to add to the list is Slumdog Millionaire. If you have not seen this movie GO SEE IT NOW. IMMEDIATELY. Go get in your car, drive to the theater, and WATCH IT. It is the most brilliant film I have ever seen. Well, one of them. Its hard to compete with Lord of the Rings. But Slumdog really takes the cake.
Everything about it is fantastic. The writing, the acting, the storyline, the soundtrack. Oh, the soundtrack! Bri & I downloaded it right when we got back from the theater. & we are determined to learn the ending credits Bollywood routine.
But back to the movie. Its so exciting. I was laughing, crying, covering my face in anticipation. Its such a sweet love story you can't help but, well, fall in love with it.
Not to mention Dev Patel just might be my new favorite actor.

In other recent news, my life almost ended about two weeks ago.
I was going over my plans for all of my semesters at Tech and I suddenly realized...my ADM classes are all season based. As in, I can only take certain ones in the fall and certain ones in the spring. And each class is a prerequiste for the next. Which would mean that the class I needed to take in the Spring of 2010, when I'll be at WDW, would be a prereq for my classes for the following fall but since it was only available in the spring I wouldn't be able to take it in Fall of 09 or Spring 11. Oh the horror! The calamity! The tragedy!
But do not fret (as I MAJORLY did at the beginning of this fiasco).
& then, as I was falling asleep one night, the solution came to me. It was almost as if Jiminy Cricket himself told me what I should do.
I have decided to extend my college career by a year.
Yes, I'll be in school longer then I expected. But, honestly, that fact doesn't bother me.
I'll be taking a year off from ADM classes, getting my general ed out of the way, spending a semester at Disney, and the coming back to 12, 9, and 7 hour semesters.
Its better then my original plan, in fact.
I am wonderfully happy. And SO excited!

The DCP presentation at TTU is this coming Tuesday! I know I won't be able to apply for Spring 2010 until this coming fall, but I'm going anyway! Me, Bri, and a really good friend of ours who lives across the hall who is planning to join us in FL are going. Ooh I'm so incredibly stoked! I can't wait to hear about all the new things & updates to the program.

Me & Bri will write about it next week!

As for now, I'm going back to watching the Harry Potter marathon on ABC Family.

As I was going through some of the blogs I follow on blogspot.com (ok, so they are all Disney related...), I was so excited to find this: a forgotten Walt Disney interview from 1933!

(Click on the words. It's a link, it just doesn't look like it!)

Walt talks about animation and the making of The Three Little Pigs (a Disney Silly Symphony) and the song that accompanied it which then became a hit, "Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?". It's a great article and the man who discovered it explains why no one knew of it and how he came to stumble upon it. It's great!

Here's my favorite quote from the whole thing:
“The secret of success if there is any, is liking what you do. I like my work better than my play. I play polo, when I have time, and I enjoy it, but it can’t equal work!”

I don't know if I'll ever get to the point of liking work better than play, but it sounds as if that WOULD make you good at what you do! Haha.

Oh, and also....
WALL-E WON THE OSCAR FOR BEST ANIMATED FEATURE! I could not be happier. :D

I just read Kim's entry below, and that is true, we have yet to list our other loves beside Disney! How could we have missed that? As she also said, Harry Potter comes in second and we are dying to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter the moment it opens! We're pretty bound and determined, actually. So, I bet you are wondering what number 3 (and 4 and 5 and 6...) could be? To satisify your curiosity, here is a list, in no particular order, except for the first two, of my "loves" (Kim can add hers later, although a lot of them might end up being the same):

Stephen King books
Vogue

Photography
Fashion
Shopping
Oscar de la Renta
The Aviator (movie)

This time next year I will have been at WDW for about a month.

That thought is almost unreal.

Bri & I keep talking about how its just now sinking in. Maybe because its only about a year away. I don't know. But its completely utterly totally exciting!

We've also been discussing the fact that The Wonderful World of Harry Potter will be opening in 2010. Could it be opening while we're living in Lake Buena Vista? Would it be possible to be there open day? Will we enjoy a butterbeer in the Three Broomsticks? Will Rupert Grint be there?! More importantly, can we meet him?? =)
One can only dream.
But how amazing would that be? I can't WAIT to walk down the streets of Hogsmeade and stroll through the grounds of Hogwarts castle. Maybe even serve a detention in the Forbidden Forest!
Now that I think of it, I don't think me or Bri has mentioned that Harry Potter is our second love, just behind all things Disney. We started reading the series when the first book came out and have been hooked ever since. We lined up outside of Barnes and Noble at midnight for the book releases and saw the movies the second they hit the screens. (HBP THIS JULY!)
You can bet your brand new Firebolt that we will be at the Wonderful World of Harry Potter the second it opens!

So school has become quite overwhelming lately. My professors have just PILED on the homework. It seems like I'm always cutting patterns, sewing zippers, or drawing self portraits (ugh! Drawing II!). Bri and I decided we needed a break so we're going home this weekend. I can't wait! We're going to see Confessions of a Shopaholic (love the book, SO excited for the movie!), make dinner (soup from Boma, catfish from the Garden Grill), and Valentines Day cupcakes! =D Yum yum yum

Before I left home over Christmas break I began reading a book that I bought Bri for Christmas, The Art and Flair of Mary Blair. I think its pretty obvious that Bri and I are obsessed with her art and she made a comment about color that I just loved. She said her favorite was white because it was festive, and I totally agree! I love white. Its just bright and clean happy and, well, festive! I love to wear white. In the summer seems to just fit perfectly with warm temperatures, sunshine, and flowers and in the winter it compliments the snow and chill.

Heres some more favorite Mary Blair art to add to me and Bri's collection:

Fantastic. =)

I realized I haven't searched for Mary Blair artwork online for awhile, so I figured there might be more uploaded online since then. And, wa-la!, there were! And some really cute ones too! This'll be a short entry, cause I'm not really in the mood to write anything, but I wanted to post these pictures. Here's a few of my new favorites:

Man, by the time Spring of 2010 rolls around I will so need a semester (basically) off. I'm only about a month into this semester and I'm already tired of doing homework and studying. Actually, the studying for tests and/or quizzes I don't really mind. It's doing the pointless, that I can see at least, homework assignments like reading a chapter and then answering questions about it in my notebook. Isn't that a little high school of these teachers? By this point, once a person is in college, you should hold yourself responsible for reading a chapter. You shouldn't have to prove this by writing out answers to questions that sometimes don't even make sense or go with what you just read. I mean, it would show in class who read it and who didn't, and shouldn't that be enough? I feel like I'm just being given busy work, which is not what I need with all the things I need to get done in a day!

I do not mind, however, the homework that I get to do online. I just answer some questions, hit submit, and it's done. Most of the time it's not too hard either, but then again I have that set-up for economics and EDIT, and those classes aren't too difficult to begin with.

Not much has been going on except school lately. When I'm not doing homework or going to class or eating I'm either watching TV, reading, going to the grocery store or doing laundry, or so it seems. I really haven't done any socializing lately, but it seems like such an effort when all I want to do with my free time is rest. Plus, I haven't exactly been getting the best sleep of my life on these twin beds made for five year olds. Seriously, I don't see how people could ever be really comfortable on them. My feet hang off the end and my arms the side. It's either that or I spend the night curled up in a little ball so that I can fit, and I'm really not that tall. 5'7" is tall for girls maybe, but I can't imagine being a 6 ft. tall guy trying to sleep on these things! I would have the worst insomnia ever. Thankfully my mother sent me these natural pills that I take before I go to bed and they help me fall asleep. I wasn't sure if they really would work at first, but they really do and I'm so glad! I'm not nearly as exhausted as I was before. Then again, the two cups of coffee every morning habit that I've picked up probably has something to do with that as well (which is what I am drinking, currently, actually).

This is a rather bitter entry, isn't it? Well, I'm really not feeling that bitter, it just seems more like it once I write it out. I'm actually very happy right now, even though I so miss home a lot. I can't wait for spring break! I think there's only about five more weeks until then and I'm so excited because I'm pretty sure all of my friends will be back in Dallas at the same time. I don't think I've hung out with everyone at once since before we all started leaving for college last fall. I miss them and my family and, oh goodness, my little baby Angel kitty!
Angel1
Isn't she the sweetest thing ever? I get picture messages from my mom of her all the time. Even people who aren't cat people love my cat, it's true.

Okay, okay, I'm writing again!

That sounds like I'm writing against my will, but I'm not, I promise.  I just keep forgetting and Bri keeps reminding me!

This semester is looking like its going to be a tough one.  And by that I mean extremely time consuming and stressful.  I spent the majority of my day yesterday doing homework and I'm not expecting any other Sunday to be different.  (Sunday is my homework day, by the way.  Because in no way will I let it interfere with enjoying the rest of my weekend!)  Flat pattern and clothing construction require quite a bit of cutting and taping and measuring, both in and outside of class, while poli sci involves reading about a thousand pages a chapter and then taking an absolutely impossible quiz with minutely detailed questions.  Its simply outrageous, I tell you.  But I actually like my ADM classes.  I find the construction of clothing pretty interesting.  Or maybe its just knowing that in a few months I'll be able to make my own clothes, which I could not BE more excited about.  Copying DKNY summer dresses?  Oh yes.

I think I should tell you why exactly I choose Apparel Design and Manufacturing as my major. Or have I already?  Oh well.  I am telling you again.  You see, I dream of becoming a costume designer at Disney Studios in Burbank, California.  Wait.  Scratch that.  I am GOING to be a costume designer at Disney Studios in Burbank, California.  Clothing, movies, and Disney.  Could there be a more perfect career?  No, there could not.  Do not even try to say otherwise.
Films have always fascinated me, and Disney is, in my opinion, the big cheese of the film industry.  (Hee hee.  Get it?)  To work for them and create costumes for their movies seems....unreal.  Almost as if it will stay a dream.  Something that is so fantastic that it could never happen.  But it will.  I won't let it not.
And the DCP will help me on way!

And to live in California again.  Oh, how wonderful that will be!  I miss it so much.  My entire extended family is still there, but my mom, dad, Bri, and I havn't been back to visit in 5 years.  Its been waaaayyyy to long.  BUT, fortunately, we're going to be taking a trip there this summer!  I am SO excited!  I can't even say how much I am looking forward to it.  We're even planning on taking a day trip to San Francisco, my favorite city in the US.

And now I leave you with one of my favorite Disney concept art pieces:

Of course, its the one and only Mary Blair.

Love, Kim (Dee)

I usually look forward to the Oscars and have seen at least most of the films that are nominated, but it seems that in the last few years they nominate more and more indie films or films that I would never want to see (for example, The Reader. ugh). So, this year I have to say that the movie I am rooting for the most and most anxious to see win as many awards as possible is...Wall-E!

It is nominated for six Academy Awards including

  • Animated Feature Film
  • Music (Score)
  • Music (Song) - "Down to Earth"
  • Sound Editing
  • Sound Mixing
  • Writing (Original Screenplay)

I can almost guarantee that it will win best Animated Feature Film. I mean, it's up against Bolt, which I haven't seen but I know it wasn't as well received as Wall-E, and Kung Fu Panda, which is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Ever. I didn't laugh once. I can't even begin to explain how much I don't like that movie!

So, needless to say, Wall-E needs to win. If it doesn't, there is something seriously wrong with the Academy. Not that there isn't already. I mean, The Dark Knight wasn't nominated for Best Picture? Did they see a different movie than I did? Because it definately deserves to be nominated. Actually, I haven't seen any of the films nominated for Best Picture. That either says a lot about my movie going in the past few months (which it does), or about how the Academy picks it's movies. What's wrong with nominating a film that audiences and critics liked and made a lot of money at the box office? Seems to me that would just make a lot of people happy.

Anyway, Wall-E also needs to win for Best Score and Song. I just downloaded the soundtrack yesterday and can not stop listening to it, especially the song "Down to Earth". I absolutely love it! And the rest of the score is just so original and pretty and it makes you happy to listen to it.

Disney has a history of it's movies winning Academy Awards for best animated feature and I hope it continues that tradition with Wall-E!
